SISKIYOU COUNTY, CALIFORNIA — NOVEMBER 6, 2026. Weed’s proposed 1.5-percentage-point city sales tax, Measure K, has an early 248 Yes votes (61.69%) against 154 No (38.31%) in Siskiyou County’s November 3 election-night update. The preliminary Yes lead is 94 votes out of 402 valid choices. The county has not completed its canvass or certified the proposal.
What the election concerns
The city estimates the proposed sales tax could raise approximately $1.7 million each year for local 911 emergency services, fire and police response, street maintenance and other general services. That revenue is a forecast rather than money presently in the treasury. A 1.5% increase describes an additional 1.5 cents on each qualifying taxable dollar, subject to tax exemptions and jurisdictional requirements.
Other elections and the geographic boundary
Weed’s municipal council election was unusually structured. California58’s existing article explains that three council positions were available but only two named candidates appeared on the ballot, with write-in voting a separate issue. The city tax is a Yes/No question and cannot be used to infer support for council candidates.
Why the result matters locally
For a small city, a tax forecast of $1.7 million a year could be material to municipal budgets, yet residents and businesses may differ about the effect on purchases, costs and public services. The actual revenue depends on taxable activity, not election-night vote totals. The official county election file, not campaign claims, determines whether the measure is legally approved.
When to expect official results
The Siskiyou News analysis published November 4 reports the county’s second election-night results update at approximately 11:11 p.m. November 3, including 11,250 ballots reported out of 27,706 registered voters and 62 of 62 precincts. That does not mean all lawful mail, provisional or other ballots have been counted. The Siskiyou County Elections Office is the official source for subsequent canvass figures. California counties finish their legal canvass before statewide certification in December. This story does not claim a new numerical county update on November 6.
